after the rain

after the rain, the sky is cleansed.
it's a catharsis of sorts,
the air is crisp and cool.
everything seems fresh and unfamiliar,
made new at the end of a steamy, humid day.
the fresh and unfamiliar are magnified by
mysterious pockets of misty fog in the twilight.
the haze is cleared and the
western horizon is aglow.
even from that glowing western sky
more storms will come.
but i always remember what it is like after the rain
