For those of us who dance

O God, in whom we live and move and have our being; molder and mender of muscle and sinew; Savior of spirit and soul; not only do you sing the song to which we dance, but you also move our bodies to your song. Grant that we, broken and crippled and clumsy as stones, move with your grace, by your grace through your son, our Savior, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. amen

A Collect for Thin Spaces

Oh Father, who composed the melodies of the Pine Warbler and inspires the improvisation of the Woodthrush; who breathed the breeze on which your Spirit proceeds and carries these songs to my receiving ears, and who inhabits the praise with which I respond, draw me always to this thin space and instill in me the knowledge that, though not needed, my song is desired, and bend your ear to my feeble fingers and voice enabled by your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

A Collect for Campfires

O God, consuming fire, who spoke to Moses first from fire and guided him through the darkness by fire; you took your servant Elijah in fire and sent your Spirit as fire upon the heads of the Apostles. As tonight's fire dwindles to glowing coals in the night air thick with your presence, kindle in me a fire that never dies and grant that its smoke wisps upward with my prayers filling your nostrils with the fragrance of your Son, my Savior, Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

A Collect for Evenings

O God, breather of the evening breeze, painter of western sky, you whisper to frog and cicada and whippoorwill, "sing!" And the evening is filled with song. You walked with Adam in the cool of the day until he hid when you came looking for him. Still we hide, and still we hear your footsteps. Grant that we, moved by your evening song, will answer and walk with you in the cool air and warm colors, an invitation given us by your son, our savior, Jesus Christ who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and forever.
