Bread, though a deeply sacred symbol for millenia, has become a very important symbol for me in these last few years. I've had many experiences that have made the preparation a large part of the symbol.
Brenda made the bread used to center the community focus in the blessing of the Kitchen in the new Abbey.
We experienced deep community while making pizza dough at Glorieta.
My heart warms at what for many has become cliché.
Somehow, making bread seems to me to be as relational, and family and community oriented that it ranks with dressing a wound or changing a baby's diaper in the depth of love and meaning expressed.
